Pastor's Note

“The fool said in his heart, there is no God. . . “

(Ps. 14:1)

The general idea of a foolish person is a simple, gullible person who is not smart enough to avoid the tricksters of this world.

God’s definition of a fool is not limited to the simpletons of this world.  There are fools in high places with high IQ’s.  Foolishness is a matter of the heart.  Solomon wrote, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child.”  We make allowances for the immature actions of children, but those who are mature enough to be responsible and deny God are the biggest fools.

There are good reasons to acknowledge that God exists:

1.     Creation – “The Heavens declare the glory of God...” (Ps. 19:1)

2.     The life and breath we enjoy – “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being…” (Acts 17:27)

3.     The empty void in our souls that only God can fill.

There are apparent fools who declare their godlessness.  There are also the closet fools who claim God with their lips but deny Him in their hearts.  “April fool” may be a cute title for the recipient of a practical joke, but to deny God in our hearts is no joking matter.  The person that says there is no God or lives as if there is no God is a fool 12 months of the year.  No fooling!
